In air miles, imagination and sometimes both I&#8217;ve spent most of it <strong>far away<\/strong>. Since it&#8217;s been about twelve months since<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theycrawl.com\/news\/?p=416\"><strong> I last did this<\/strong><\/a>, here are some <strong>music recommendations<\/strong> \u2013 stuff I&#8217;ve been listening to while <strong><\/strong>out there.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I brought a whole bunch of great music back from Japan. The album I probably love most \u2013 though it&#8217;s far from comfortable to listen to \u2013 is <strong>Seven Idiots<\/strong> by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/World%27s_End_Girlfriend\"><strong>World&#8217;s End Girlfriend<\/strong><\/a>. This is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5JM4B9VxUko\"><strong>Les Enfants du Paradis<\/strong><\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5JM4B9VxUko?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I think it sounds like a fairytale, perhaps by Oscar Wilde or Hans Christian Andersen, in which you do a deal whereby you get to live a total life of <strong>passion, thrills <\/strong>and<strong> wild romance<\/strong> on the condition that the whole thing is compressed into <strong>seven manic minutes then you die<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Zac Bentz<\/strong>, under the name <strong>Dirty Knobs<\/strong>, is making some of my favourite new music in the world right now. I first heard about him via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.warrenellis.com\/\"><strong>Warren Ellis<\/strong><\/a> who linked to Bentz&#8217;s majestic and desolate <a href=\"http:\/\/zacbentz.bandcamp.com\/album\/field-recordings-from-the-edge-of-hell\"><strong>Field Recordings from the Edge of Hell<\/strong><\/a>, and I&#8217;ve been a fan since. October&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/zacbentz.bandcamp.com\/album\/hallow\"><strong>Hallow<\/strong><\/a> was the highlight of my pumpkin season, but my favourite album of his at the moment, one that&#8217;s grown on me enormously in the last six months, is <a href=\"http:\/\/zacbentz.bandcamp.com\/album\/ghost-geometry\"><strong>Ghost Geometry<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/zacbentz.bandcamp.com\/album\/ghost-geometry\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1090\" title=\"GhostGeometry\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mynameiso.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/GhostGeometry.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.mynameiso.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/GhostGeometry.jpg 350w, http:\/\/www.mynameiso.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/GhostGeometry-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.mynameiso.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/GhostGeometry-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This music is <strong>huge and slow<\/strong>. Listening to it I imagine wandering through vast, echoing, eternal spaces, sometimes scared, sometimes <strong>inspired<\/strong>. <a href=\"http:\/\/zacbentz.bandcamp.com\/album\/ghost-geometry\"><strong>Click here to hear or download it for yourself<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Best <em>re<\/em>discovery of my year was <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sonic_youth\"><strong>Sonic Youth<\/strong><\/a>. I hadn&#8217;t listened to them since I was a teenager \u2013 and was therefore all the more <strong>awed and delighted<\/strong> to find out that in all the years they&#8217;ve now been playing together they&#8217;ve <strong>never stopped making new and wonderful music<\/strong>. You&#8217;d have to search hard to find another band who&#8217;ve so consistently kept pushing themselves, each other, and the possibilities of what guitars, bass and drums can do.
